The Little Things Foundation
While The Little Things does of course offer “common” services such as collecting and providing food and clothing for those in need, as well as aiding in locating or even providing safe shelter and education for those unable to obtain it themselves, be it because of poverty, the failing economy or a natural disaster, the special glimmer in The Little Things vision is exactly that – “The Little Things” --- The things in life that many people overlook, except for those who are not lucky enough to be graced with them.
We will be working closely with Churches, Synagogues, Hospitals, Fire Departments, and other Non Profit Organizations within the community. Our focus is on any and every need of Long Islanders going through tough times- no matter how “little”.
The Little Things has a broad focus of efforts, extending beyond those normally provided by other Not For Profit Organizations. Below you can see a list of just some of the ways we reach out to our surrounding community- however the possibilities are absolutely endless.
Keep Long Island Warm- Our Annual Coat Drive for those in need during the long cold winter months here on the island, as well as a “Bra Drive” for women living in Domestic Violence Shelters who often leave their homes with only their children, and the clothing on their backs.
Cards That Care- A fun and free quarterly gathering where we all get together over coffee, desserts and lots and lots of glitter! An event for all ages to sit down and make cards for the sick and terminally ill in our local hospitals, complete with a full “Craft Bar” to allow your creativity to flow!
Photos For Fire Victims- One of the worse parts about a home being lost to a fire isn’t the money, but the memories. We want to help you create new memories of your own, offering free photo services to those who have lost their homes and their cherished mementos to fire, flood, hurricane, or any other natural disaster.
Home Improvements and Special Needs- There are families who have no beds, no kitchen tables or couches, sleeping five children on a single mattress; Handi-capeable people in need of ramps to their front door or assistance maintaining their homes- everyone deserves to live comfortably and we’re here to help get them the things they need!
Holiday Helping Hands- Unfortunately the holidays are a tough time for many families, we’re here to help ease the burden with events like our Easter Egg Hunts and Holiday Cook-Offs, as well as Secret Santa’s, Dinner Drop-Offs and much more!
“Prom Tonight” Drive- Prom is an important milestone in a young persons life but for many it is a financial burden. We collect new and gently used party dresses and accessories to help those who may not be able to afford to participate - nobody should miss out on making memories simply because of money!
